Click on horse party rules for procedures that are mandatory on all mini horse parties.

Lead Ropes:

Our lead ropes have a "bull clip". You should learn to open this clip with one hand. This leaves you your other hand free for safety reasons.  Always watch to be sure the clip is closed. Sometimes it does not close when you let it go. If so, WD 40 can be used to allow it to close easily. You always wrap the lead rope over your hand when you lead  the mini horse.  Always put the lead rope on the horse first before attaching or detaching the horse from the clip in the trailer. This is for safety reasons. The horse can not bolt out before you are ready for it.

Put the lead ropes in the trailer. Put them in the top doors so they are easy to get the next time you need them. When put in the bottom section the merry go round gets caught on the lead ropes and they are sometimes hard to get out.

There should always be four lead ropes for each trailer. This allows one extra in case one does not function properly.

Grooming horses for a Show

Each horse is tied to a tree. Make sure you tie the horse up high enough so he is not able to get down on the ground and get dirty.

By the pump in the bottom shelf of the sink set up you will find your grooming supplies which include the following: shampoo for horses, plastic brush and curry comb.  Put these back please when you are done.

They are usually groomed and ready on Friday before the weekend shows. These instructions would be for Friday or before the show if the mini horses need to be groomed before the shows.

Take out all cockle burs from horses. Be sure that there are none under the belly since this is where the saddle lattigo goes and this will cause the horses to not ride safely.

Wash all horses with a hose. Then . Use the long wand brush to scrub in the horse shampoo. to scrub it in. Then wash off the horses. Then use the plastic comb and the curry comb to groom the horse.

Horse order in trailer. You will have instructions in the vehicle you are taking about the order of the horses in the trailer and the order of the horses on the carousel.

All instructions are in the large zippered compartment on the visor.

Carousel  Set Up

The carousel  is on a rack on the side of the trailer. The arms are  put inside first and they go on the spike  with the loop of each arm going over the spike. Then the two large plates are put on. Then the small center piece is put on towards the back end of the vehicle and the spindle that the arms go on is put towards the front and is bungy corded in place.

The tool bag is placed on the all thread spike just below the first arm.

Be sure you have two tires for the carousel which will be in the trailer compartment.

We have four  carousels You can not mix the parts of the four  carousels.

Lay the plates down. Put the center piece in the center of the plates. Put the large tire and then the small tire over the center piece.  The handles are on the outside of the plates when they go down. Then put the tent spikes in the holes to prevent the plates and center piece from moving.

Put the arms in. The arms need to have the triangle piece on them to be up. On the multi color arms for that merry go round they must be in a specific order. There are raised dots on the arms and on the center piece to show which ones go where. Put the small straps on the arm ends. Two straps per arm are required. Put the large clip to the arm.

Take the first horse out of the trailer. Put the small saddle on this horse. Be sure it is on tight.  The merry go round goes clock wise. Have your camera person put their leg against one arm to prevent the carousel from moving as you put each horse on the carousel.Put the first horse on the merry go round by fastening that horse to the small straps. the small clips go on the eye spots. Wind the lead rope on the middle of the arm. Be sure that the rope does not bring the horses head to close to the arm. I also do not want their head to droop to low. I need to take a picture with the head in an upright position.

Put the belly strap on. The strap fits over the top. You fasten it to the last hole so it is tight.  Run the outside strap to the back arm end which put across the horses side will bring the horse inside the merry go round. Put on the inside strap and make that tight so the horse does not move in.

Repeat the same procedure for each other horse.

Click on mini horse party rules. to be sure that you do not run the merry go round if there is not a parent or a person over eighteen that is holding the arm of each child on the horse.

Children must not be more than 70 pounds to ride the horse. Each vehicle has a scale. The younger smaller horses can only have children of 40 pounds or less on them.

Mini horse rides are for seven turns for parties of 15 or less and for five turns for more than 15 kids.. You stop the carousel.with your leg when someone wants to take a photo or when the photographer takes a photo.

You walk with the merry go round and gently keep it going when the horses stop. Do not let them run fast.

Watch your horses and give them 15 minute breaks when needed. You can give them water at that time  and check their saddles to be sure they are tight. Check their halters as well.
